Pure adrenaline on the cross-country and marathon course at the FEI World Championships Aachen 2026

The FEI World Championships Aachen 2026 will gather the world elite of the equestrian sport together at the Allianz Park from August 11th-23rd – and it promises to be a festival of elegance, precision and pure athleticism. This will become particularly tangible in the eventing and driving: two disciplines that, like no others, demand courage, trust and perfect harmony between the horse and rider. And these two disciplines will draw tens of thousands of spectators to the cross-country courses on both Saturdays of the World Championships to experience these action-packed competitions live.

In the eventing, all eyes will be on, among others, the reigning World Champion, Yasmin Ingham from Great Britain. The winner of Pratoni del Vivaro in 2022 will be striving to demonstrate once again in Aachen that composure, fighting spirit and exceptional talent converge to create a highly explosive combination. But the road to the next triumph leads through one of the world’s most demanding, emotionally-charged and prestigious venues in the old imperial city – and against the strongest competition the sport has ever seen.

The German stars of the scene are stepping into the spotlight too – and they come with a clear mission: to defend their team title. Among them is two-time Aachen winner Julia Krajewski, whose fine riding style and unparalleled partnership with her horses continue writing history. And of course, there’s Michael Jung, the epitome of eventing, an athlete whose name has long since become legendary. The 43-year-old was already looking forward to the World Equestrian Games in Aachen immediately after his Olympic victory in Paris. “This will be a huge highlight, I am sure. Aachen always attracts the crème de la crème in every discipline. I expect the same to be true for the World Championships. It is fantastic that six disciplines are being staged in one location; that is paramount for me. It is going to be amazing in our own country – with countless people, a fantastic crowd and a tremendous atmosphere,” the multiple Olympic, World and European Champion, stated. Unlike during the CHIO Aachen, both the start and finish areas of the eventing course are located on the cross-country track – a highlight that adds extra excitement.

The driving competition also promises to be captivating: When the four-in-hand teams speed round the marathon course with breath-taking precision and every centimetre covered determines victory or defeat, the Aachen Soers transforms into a stage for courage, skill and nerves of steel. The top favourites include the Australian four-in-hand icon, Boyd Exell; the Dutch drivers Koos de Ronde as well as Bram and Ijsbrand Chardon and Daniel Schneiders from Austria. But the German team (the squad comprises Michael Brauchle, Anna Mareike Meier, Rene Poensgen, Anna Sandmann, Christoph Sandmann and Georg von Stein) will also be in contention for the medals. Anna Mareike Meier, team silver medallist in the years 2022 and 2024, described just how special the atmosphere in Aachen is: “When you approach the first obstacle and the crowds are cheering and clapping, it is simply incredible. You can feel that atmosphere even when you are highly focused on the carriage.”
