In less than a month, the FEI World Championships Aachen 2026 will get underway – one of the biggest sporting events of the year in Germany. From 11 to 23 August, the Allianz Park will be transformed into a venue for thrilling competitions, emotional highlights and unforgettable moments across six disciplines.

At a press conference, Minister-President Hendrik Wüst, ALRV President Stefanie Peters, Aachen’s Lord Mayor Dr Michael Ziemons, Dressage rider Isabell Werth, Show jumper Henrik von Eckermann, Para-Dressage rider Regine Mispelkamp, ALRV board member and Head of Sport Birgit Rosenberg, and the Managing Director of the Aachener Reitturnier GmbH (ART) Michael Mronz, will provide details on the programme, the schedule, the highlights and the significance of the FEI World Championships Aachen 2026 for North Rhine-Westphalia as a sporting region.

Team Riders

On Tuesday, a maximum of two riders per team will compete.
The order of the team riders will be nominated by the Chef d’Équipe.
On Wednesday, two riders per team will compete.

Individual Riders

As the competition takes place over two days, individual riders will be drawn in reverse order of the FEI Dressage World Ranking.
The draw will be split into two groups, with the highest ranked riders competing on the second day.
After both days, the FEI Team Medals will be decided, and there will also be an individual classification.

Each nation may enter up to five rider/horse combinations in Eventing.
A team consists of three to four riders, each with one horse. The fifth rider competes as an individual.
A nation that is unable to send a team may enter a maximum of two individual riders, each with one horse.

Dressage Test

As the first phase of the competition, each rider completes the Dressage test (Dressage Test: Olympic Short Test).
From the scores of the three judges, an average score is calculated and displayed to the audience as a percentage out of 100, reflecting the quality of the performance. In addition—unlike in the specialist discipline of Dressage—this result is then converted into penalty points, which are later added to the penalty points from the Show Jumping and Cross-Country phases for the overall classification.
The penalty score is calculated as follows: 100 − percentage score.

In Eventing every rider/horse combination has to compete in these three disciplines: Dressage, Cross-Country and Show Jumping.

Cross-Country Test

As the second phase of the competition, the rider/horse combinations complete the Cross-Country course.
The course length is between 5,600 and 5,800 metres.
The speed is 570 metres per minute.
A total of 38 to 42 obstacles must be jumped.
The riders start in the same order as in the Dressage Test.
The start and finish are both located on the Cross-Country Course Soers.

In Eventing every rider/horse combination has to compete in these three disciplines: Dressage, Cross-Country and Show Jumping.

The riders start in reverse order of the individual results after the Dressage and Cross-Country Test.

In Eventing every rider/horse combination has to compete in these three disciplines: Dressage, Cross-Country and Show Jumping.

Round one is open only to the rider/horse combinations, which have taken part in the first competition.
Round two is open only to the ten best teams after the first round and those teams with equality of penalties for 10th place and the 60 best placed riders (plus those tied for 60th place) according to their classification following the first competition and round one of the second competition.
Two rounds not against the clock with a jump-off against the clock in case of teams tied on penalties for first place following the first and second competitions.

FEI Jumping World Championship – Team

Teams that participate in round two of the second competition receive their placing by adding the penalties incurred by the three best riders of each team in the first competition and penalties incurred by the three best riders in each of the two rounds of the second competition.
The team that has obtained the least number of penalties after the first and second competition will be placed first and declared World Team Champion.

The drivers are nominated by the nations.
The drivers must qualify according to specific FEI criteria.
Each nation may enter up to five drivers. The exact number will be determined after the closing date for entries in consultation with the FEI.
A team consists of two to three drivers, each bringing four horses (plus one reserve horse). Any additional drivers compete as individuals.
A nation that is unable to send a team may enter a maximum of one individual driver with four horses (plus one reserve horse).

Dressage phase

As the first phase of the competition, each driver completes the Dressage Test (Dressage Test 3B H4*).

In Driving every driver has to compete in these three phases: Dressage, Marathon and Cones.

Since 2014 on the initative of the national show jumping coach, Otto Becker, and his co-trainer Heinrich-Hermann Engemann.
Supporter: Stiftung Deutscher Pferdesport and Holger Hetzel.
The goal is to support young riders (up to 25 years) on their way to top-level sport.
Final of a national tour in Aachen with four qualifying events (Hagen a.T.W., Mannheim, Balve and Riesenbeck).
The 20 best German riders under 25 years from these qualifying events are entitled to start at the final in Aachen.

Two rounds not against the clock with a jump-off against the clock in case of teams tied on penalties for first place following the first and second competitions.

FEI Jumping World Championship – Team

Teams that participate in round two of the second competition receive their placing by adding the penalties incurred by the three best riders of each team in the first competition and penalties incurred by the three best riders in each of the two rounds of the second competition.
The team that has obtained the least number of penalties after the first and second competition will be placed first and declared World Team Champion.

Marathon phase

The course in the Soers is between 7 and 9 km long.
There will be 8 obstacles.
The average speed is 14 km/h.
The decisive factor is the time taken within the obstacle, which is measured from entry to exit.

In Driving every driver has to compete in these three phases: Dressage, Marathon and Cones.
