It’s never been this royal: History at the FEI World Championships Aachen 2026

View from the covered grandstand into the packed equestrian stadium at Allianz Park: in the evening light, several riders on their horses move across the lush green arena for the opening ceremony, while various national flags hang above the stadium.

A royal gathering unlike any Allianz Park has ever seen: High-profile representatives from several European royal families will grace the Opening Ceremony of the FEI World Championships in Aachen. Her Royal Highness, Princess of Orange, and Zara Tindall, niece of His Majesty King Charles III, will help kick off the FEI World Championships Aachen 2026 in a truly regal setting. Three royal stables – from the Netherlands, Denmark, and Great Britain – will showcase their royal carriages. In addition, Her Royal Highness, Elena de Borbón, Infanta of Spain, will ensure a historic evening with her presence in Aachen.

Visits by members of royal families have long been a cherished tradition at Allianz Park. Yet the historic tournament grounds at Aachen’s Soers have never before witnessed as much royal splendor as they will in 2026. These dignitaries embody, like few others, the deep-rooted equestrian traditions of their houses and a special affinity for equestrian sports. Zara Tindall, in particular, is returning to the place where she won the gold medal in eventing 20 years ago at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen.

Together with a selection from the royal stables, magnificent horses and carriages will take center stage: noble warmbloods and characterful carriage horses, finely crafted harnesses, gleaming leather, and traditionally restored ceremonial and gala carriages will bring the world of European royal houses to life for one evening. The centuries-old culture of the royal stables is impressively combined with the atmosphere of a major modern sporting event.

“The visit of these high-ranking royal guests is a great honor – for the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein (ALRV), for the city, and above all for our spectators,” says ALRV President Stefanie Peters. “When else do you get to experience so much royal splendor up close? When traditional royal houses, with their passion for horses, meet the unique atmosphere of Allianz Park, the result is unforgettable imagery. You’re not just attending a world-class sporting event – you’re experiencing history, emotion, and spine-tingling moments live in the stadium. You can hardly get any closer to royal flair and the fascination of equestrian sports.”

The FEI World Championships Aachen 2026 will set new standards in sports, society, and culture. The Opening Ceremony on August 11, 2026, is the moment when the world comes together in Aachen – when top athletes, royal guests, and an international audience gather at Allianz Park to embark together on this extraordinary World Championships adventure.

Anyone who wants to experience this special Opening Ceremony up close should secure tickets early. Tickets are available in the online shop, by phone at +49-241-9171111, or directly at the office of the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein.
