Peter Nixon honoured with the “Silver Camera”
The equestrian sport is extremely multifaceted, tells fascinating stories and has the power to arouse strong emotions. Just how impressively this can be achieved was demonstrated on Saturday evening during the FEI World Championships Aachen 2026, when the “Silver Camera” award was presented for the best international equestrian sports photo of the year.
What distinguishes a good photo? Is it the subject, the technical quality or the atmosphere captured? A star-studded jury has to answer this question every year, since the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein (ALRV) traditionally awards the “Silver Camera” for the best international equestrian sports photo of the year. Around 130 photographs were submitted this year – but of course ultimately only one can win.
This year, the panel of judges, who selected the winner and runners-up consisted of the German dressage rider, Frederic Wandres, last year’s winner, Andreas Steindl, and Andreas Müller, Managing Director of Mediahuis Aachen GmbH. “It wasn’t an easy task. But as a jury, we worked together to choose a fantastic winning photo – and the entries that took second and third place are very special, too,” Frederic Wandres stated. The jury was particularly impressed by the photo submitted by the British equestrian photographer, Peter Nixon. His photo captures an extraordinary moment during the cross-country phase of an eventing competition. Thanks to the perfect interplay between subject, perspective and technical execution, the photograph stood out among the many submissions. In addition to the “Silver Camera” honorary award, Peter Nixon also receives prize money to the value of 2,500 Euros. The runner-up, Madeleine Delp Bergsjø, wins 1,000 Euros in prize money, while third-place is endowed with 500 Euros, which was awarded to the photographer, Arnd Bronkhorst.
