The race for the medals at the FEI Eventing World Championship starts tomorrow
The eventers have arrived safely at the Allianz Park: The travel, horse inspection and training sessions are all completed – all the participants in the FEI Eventing World Championship are ready for the first phase of the competition. The conditions are exceptional and the world’s best riders are buzzing with anticipation.
After being completely furnished with temporary grandstands, Stadium 2 has taken on a totally different appearance: The result is an impressive setting, befitting for a championship event, with colourful flower decorations and a capacity of 4,700 seats. Everything is set for the opening test of the eventers: Tomorrow the FEI Eventing World Championship kicks off with the dressage.
Two riders, who hope to assert themselves in the battle for team and individual medals are the three-time individual Olympic gold medallist, Michael Jung, and the reigning European Champion, Laura Collett. “I am absolutely thrilled to be here. Being at this venue for the World Championships is just incredible,” the British rider beamed after the horse inspection. She made it clear that this statement not only applies to her, but also to her successful partner: “London is very happy, too – he simply loves demonstrating what he is capable of. And he loves winning,” she said with a smile, underscoring her ambitions for the outcome of the DHL-Prize. “Going home with medals is definitely my dream.”
Michael Jung came across slightly less euphoric – albeit characteristically analytical and focused – while he was walking fischerChipmunk in the warm-up arena. “We are very well-prepared. fischerChipmunk gains more and more experience every year and is in great form. We are looking forward to the week and just want to put in good performances. Then, we will see where we stand compared to the other pairs,” Germany’s most successful eventer commented. But even the reserved Michael Jung can’t deny that a championship on home soil is something special: “There is always an incredible atmosphere in Aachen; it is an absolute highlight every year. But a World Championship at home is of course the icing on the cake.”
The eventing legend, Andrew Hoy, will be competing at the Aachen Soers with his long-standing partner, Vassily. During his training on the eve before the competition starts, his top priority was to make his horse feel as content as possible. “The atmosphere in this stadium is something truly special. The horses rise to the occasion here,” the Australian rider is convinced.
