World Championships flair: Allianz Park gets ready for the FEI World Championships Aachen 2026
In six days’ time, the FEI World Championships Aachen 2026 will open its doors. A sense of world championship excitement already hangs over the Aachen Soers, there is a palpable buzz in the air. The place that was all but a construction site just a few weeks ago has transformed into an arena for world-class equestrian sport, where the world's best equestrian athletes will soon compete for gold, silver and bronze. The stage is set – the last details are being finely tuned.
Anyone, who takes a stroll round the grounds in the next few days, will witness a fascinating interplay between focused work and growing anticipation. Screws are still being tightened, hammers are in action and adjustments are being made; cables are disappearing into the ground, grandstands are being fitted out and the last lengths of fabric are being attached. With every step, the overall picture becomes clearer: First and foremost, the Championships-Village with its striking white pagoda tents, where around 200 international companies will showcase their products and services. In total, more than 300 pagodas will be erected there – an international, high-end shopping and experience village where visitors can find everything their hearts desire, from exclusive equestrian equipment to fashion and lifestyle products, as well as unique decorative highlights.
The street artist, Paul Sous, is adding vibrant and striking accents with his selfie spots that are scattered throughout the grounds. The colourful motifs are more than merely a backdrop: They invite the visitors to capture their personal World Championships moments and take them home. This transforms the visit into an experience that extends far beyond the sports competitions. Aachen also proves that it is a World Champion when it comes down to culinary experiences. Between the pagoda tents and stadium stands, the air is filled with the aroma of crispy fries, freshly grilled food and regional specialties. In the exclusive Champions’ Circle, the renowned Munich-based caterer, Käfer, will pamper guests with Michelin-starred creations, while with its burgers, roast onions, and freshly tapped beer, the Soerser Biergarten, will become a convivial hotspot. Sport, enjoyment, and ambiance will merge into an all-round experience that embodies the special magic of the Soers.
A large team has been busy working behind the scenes. Around 1,500 people – many of them volunteers – will ensure that everything runs smoothly both inside and outside of the arenas during the event: From the FEI judges and stewards to the numerous marshals, medical teams and transport crews. They all share one goal: To create conditions that enable world-class performances – for both the riders and their four-legged partners.
Extensive further development at the Allianz Park
To ensure that the FEI World Championships Aachen 2026 meet the highest international standards, the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein has undertaken extensive further developments of the facility over the recent months. The floodlights in the Main Stadium have been renewed, a new dressage surface has been installed, the Cross-Country Course has been extended, Stadium 3, where the vaulters and para dressage riders are competing, has been covered and modern stables have been built that satisfy the latest animal welfare standards. Advanced ventilation systems ensure an optimal climate and there is also plenty of natural light, indoor wash bays and much more. The project was funded by the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Home Affairs based on a resolution passed by the German Bundestag.
Sustainability is also a key theme. The FEI World Championships Aachen 2026 not only stand for outstanding equestrian sport, but also for a responsible approach to the environment and resources. The ALRV focuses on energy efficiency, intelligent mobility concepts, waste reduction and inclusion. The accessibility has also been further improved on the grounds – a clear commitment to strengthening the para equestrian sport and making the stay as comfortable as possible for everyone. The goal is to combine a major sporting event with an equally strong sense of responsibility – and to set an example that extends far beyond the event days.
The Allianz Park Day on 17 August, is one of the special highlights of the supporting programme. With free admission, the Allianz Park will be transformed into a large stage for equestrian sport, offering opportunities to participate and marvel. A diverse show programme featuring various breeds and riding styles will give the whole family an introduction to equestrian sport, while children can enjoy a diversified programme, including a rally across the grounds. It is a day where everyone can experience the fascination of horses – whether longtime fans or curious newcomers.
The countdown is on: In just a few days’ time, the first horses will enter the Main Stadium and tens of thousands of visitors will fill the stands. What has been planned, built and prepared for years will then culminate in what everyone has been working towards: Emotions, top performances and unforgettable moments. Aachen is ready for the world – and the world is ready for the FEI World Championships Aachen 2026.
