Ready for top performances at the FEI Vaulting World Championship
Just one day before the most important competitions this year kick off, the vaulters and their horses are preparing meticulously at the Allianz Park. The German national coach, Kai Vorberg, is optimistic his team could make it onto the podium, but nevertheless warns everyone to remain humble and focused.
Gianna Ronca is gently patting her horse’s neck. Ecuador is calmly cantering around the circle in Stadium 3, which has been covered especially for the FEI Vaulting World Championship, as the vaulters complete their final preparations in front of a handful of spectators. “Our training is tailored to each horse, depending on what they need. With some, we just do a light warm-up lap to settle them in; with others, we can go straight into performing the routine,” explained Kai Vorberg. The German national coach, who claimed the World Championship title in Aachen in 2006 with his legendary “Mozart” freestyle routine, is satisfied with the session: “Everything went exactly to plan and as we had hoped for with all of them.”
With Team Norka – the defending champions in the squad classification – and other successful, experienced championship competitors on board, Vorberg naturally thinks they have a good chance of success in the Prize of Sparkasse. This applies to the individual women’s and men’s events as well as the to the pas de deux, squad and team competitions. “When Germany competes, the goal is always to win medals. But you have to remain humble,” Vorberg said, calling for modesty, despite the victories of recent years. He explained that losing one’s sense of humbleness in sport can quickly lead to things going wrong. “That’s why we stay focused and concentrated, hoping to guide our horses, vaulters and lungers through the compulsory, technical and freestyle tests as successfully as possible,” he commented, looking ahead to the upcoming competitions.
For Ecuador – a horse one can always rely on – the dress rehearsal ended with plenty of praise and pats. The stage is perfectly set for top-class performances as the world vaulting elite compete in the FEI Vaulting World Championship starting tomorrow. All the horses passed the horse inspection today, so nothing is stood in the way of exceptional teamwork between horses, vaulters and lungers.
